Pardew cracking again
Anyone see his interview after the game today with Geoff Shreeves? Bloke's so fucking arrogant but it's so amusing to watch. Got nothing against him as got some great memories (amongst the dross), and that loss must have been bloody hard to take given the circumstances, but he made himself look an utter twat again. Meltdown.

I'm presuming the Lino flagged or did something.
I only saw the Liverpool players crowding the ref pointing over at the linesman.

It's a contact sport, people get impeeded all the time, it was a soft touch and benteke threw himself to the ground.

If that's a pen then there should be penalties given at every corner kick.

Re: Pardew cracking again
Having seen Benteke in recent games against us and knowing he hadn't scored in his last 700 mins of football Delaney would have been better slowing to a jog and shouting 'Duck' to the crowd in Row Z behind the goal.

asked why he didnt put his flag across his chest instantly to point that out when he flagged.

The ref didn't have a clear view so didn't give the pen.
The lino flagged and said 'He tripped him' to the ref.
What would you have done in the ref's shoes?

It's probably easier for them to instruct their players not to make a challenge unless they are sure they can win the ball.

If Delaney doesn't make contact with Benteke, nor obstruct him any way, it isn't a penalty. SImple as.

That's irrelevant. You don't have to be 'brought down' to be awarded a penalty.

Whether the contact was sufficient for the award of a penalty is subjective, as clearly demonstrated by the debate on here.

Never a penalty but then I'm not the stupid ref.

Because he was stupid.

Re: Pardew cracking again
I think he has a point. If the roles were reversed there would be no way Palace would have got that penalty at Anfield

Benteke was not brought down. He feel by his own free will. He cheated.

Re: Pardew cracking again
I think the heat is on him and it's starting to show a bit. IMV he's a good manager, not great, but good all the same. Palace should have won the game, they had a good number of chances and had the keeper not slipped I think they would have won.

But that's football, one mistake is sometimes all it takes to turn a game around. Was it a penalty? Yes, but there was no reason for Benteke to go down as his next step was his right foot, not his left, so he could have kept his balance.

He was also going nowhere, but it was a penalty as far as the rules are concerned.

That's what happens when you are struggling, fuck me, we've had it happen to us enough times.

Will they go down? Unlikely, but the slide may continue a bit longer yet.

Re: Pardew cracking again
If managers don't like this sort of thing then they should all make a pac with each othert to not encourage their players to go down like that. You can guarantee that behind closed doors they all encourage or at least condone it of their players

I have to say it but if you can't beat em join em

Re: Pardew cracking again
IMO when all is said and done it always goes back to should contact always mean a pen? Was that contact enough to bring Benteke down? Could the officials have been 100% sure that it was a pen?

Judging by the comments on here and in the media it seems pretty spilt..

madeeasy 5:15 Mon Mar 7
Re: Pardew cracking again
OM i agree that one of them has to think its a pen. i am pointing out i don't think it was the lino or he would have flagged as such.

So the ref must have thought it was a pen, but he only blew his whistle as the lino flagged and the ref didn't have a clear view of it.

So between them they somehow came to the incorrect decision of awarding it..... swt
